Where to visit

Paris "Town Hall" Packed with helpful advice

The major tourist sites are probably for most people the Louvre Museum (think of the Mona Lisa), the Musée D'Orsay (a little smaller but particularly ideal for the likes of Monet), Cathedral Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower and the Chateau de Versailles - but for this last one you need to get the train out of town.

Paris is a "Tourist City" - you will inevitably have to queue to buy tickets and enter these popular spots but if you book and pay in advance you usually don't have to queue!!! Links are on the right hand side of this page - you can go to the relevant website and decide/book  for yourselves depending on your interests or get a "Museum Pass" for 2, 4 or 6 days validity on your arrival (click on the link on the right) (thanks for the suggestion Jung!)

We also post below a few other links or ideas (sometimes lesser known) that may  tempt you - most of which are much less heavily visited (with the notable exception of Disneyworld!). But there are lots of others - it's impossible to put anything more than a tiny selection here. Get books, watch films and scan the internet, get maps - then decide over a glorious coffee or whatever in a bar nearby!

If you visit somewhere not on our our list and think it should be then please let us know, we'll add it for the benefit of future guests to see (bars etc included!)

This one's a "little" gem, close to the apartment. The english link on their website doesn't seem to work at the time of writing this but don't let that put you off, click on their photos if nothing else!
Sainte Chapelle

Out of the centre but often relatively quiet (watch out - opening hours are limited), you will get there by tube - not well known by tourists but superb for artist buffs like me! Paintings here that I think (perhaps even hope) will move you to tears like me!

Musée Marmotan Monet
Yep, I know they call it Disneyland Paris - but you have to get the train out of town! But hey, for kids (no matter the age) there's only one Disneyland (OK maybe two)

Disneyland
A beautiful area - nothing but tourists there at first glance but not true, but goodness, you have to visit! Try not to miss the view fron the "Sacré Coeur", take an espresso in a café while one of the street artists makes a sketch of your kids - this area has a very special charm. Look out for the "dolls" in several shops - these are artist designed, not for playing with .
Montmartre

Not all buildings are old, even if they look it. The Grand Palais was built in 1900!

Grand Palais
And not all structures called "Neuf" (new) are new - this is actually the oldest existing bridge in Paris, opened in 1603!

A suggestion - the "cellars/foundations" rate a visit as well if you have time - no works of art there but wow, the size of the stones there are impressive!
Louvre Museum
Eiffel Tower
The Cathedral is free to enter - but that means you cannot book in advance and I'm afraid the queues can be long!
Notre Dame
This is my personal favourite - particularly suitable for lovers of the Impressionists.
Musée D'Orsay
Chateau de Versailles - magnifique but you have to take the train out of town!
